The holistic care of the girl child.

We are here for girls in their teenage years, roughly 12 to 19: the age when a young woman is deciding what she is worth, and often deciding it on somebody else's terms. Younger sisters who come along with them are welcome too.

Our aim is that she is inspired, groomed and equipped to reach her own dreams, and that she grows into a woman who lives with confidence and security wherever she finds herself.

Pearl of Pearls was launched on 26 April 2015 in Calabar, Nigeria, out of a simple concern: teenage girls were growing up without the godly mentorship that helps a young woman understand who she is and what she carries.

What began as one gathering became a movement. Over ten years, Pearl of Pearls has grown to three branches and reached more than a thousand young people through mentoring, conferences, outreaches and skills training. The girls we started with are women now, and some of them mentor the next ones.

The Liverpool branch is our newest, and it is where this next chapter is being written.

What we do

Mentoring that meets a girl where she is.

Monthly picnic

Pearls gather to learn, talk honestly and think together about the things that affect a girl's life.

INSPIRE HER

Our woman to woman mentorship conference, bridging the gap between generations of women.

Time in God's presence, looking through scripture and drawing lessons for real living.

Our prayer meeting: deep fellowship and intercession for the girls and their families.

Practical, lucrative skills taught during picnics and conferences, open to every participant.

Unhurried time together, where mentoring happens through friendship rather than a programme.

Outreaches

School visits with educational materials, and free medical outreaches to those who need them.

Pearl of the Year

Our April anniversary, marked with essay and quiz competitions and a girl crowned Pearl of the Year.

Every activity is free. Girls of any background, faith or family circumstance are welcome, and no one is asked to believe anything in order to belong.

Our annual conference

INSPIRE HER

Once a year, women of every age come into one room: schoolgirls, students, mothers, professionals, grandmothers. INSPIRE HER is a woman to woman mentorship conference built to close the gap between the generations.

Girls hear from women who have already walked the road they are on, and ask the questions they cannot easily ask anywhere else. It has run since the earliest years of Pearl of Pearls and remains the moment the whole movement looks forward to.

Support the work where it happens.

Our work is carried by two separate bodies, each funded and accounted for under the law of its own country. Choose where you would like your gift to go, and give to it directly.

Gifts to the Nigerian branches are received by Pearl of Pearls Nigeria and do not pass through the charity registered in England and Wales. Gifts to the Liverpool branch are received by the charity in England and Wales and are applied solely to its charitable purposes. We accept no anonymous donations, and the trustees consider the source of every gift before accepting it.

Dr Nnyen Okorn

Founder · Liverpool

Dr Nnyen founded Pearl of Pearls in Calabar in 2015, out of a concern that too many teenage girls were growing up without an older woman to talk to about the things that shape them. Ten years on, the movement she began has reached over a thousand young people across three branches.

She is a medical doctor by profession and leads the Liverpool branch, which began meeting in her own living room in 2024.

Every girl is a pearl of great worth. She only needs someone to help her see it.

Dr Ami Brighton

Lead Project Coordinator · Nigeria

Dr Ami has been a trustee of Pearl of Pearls since its founding in 2015. In 2018 she initiated the Port Harcourt branch and has coordinated it ever since, carrying the same programme of mentoring, prayer, skills training and outreach.

She holds a doctorate in French language and literature, and serves as Lead Project Coordinator for the movement in Nigeria.

Before you bring your daughter.

What actually happens?

A gathering is conversation, food, a short talk or Bible study, and time to be together. Girls are never put on the spot, and nobody has to speak or pray aloud.

Who will be with her?

Vetted adult volunteers, never fewer than two. Everyone working with our girls is DBS checked and works to our code of conduct.

How do you keep her safe?

We have a written safeguarding and child protection policy with a named safeguarding lead. Ask us for a copy at any time and we will send it.

Does she have to be a Christian?

No. We are openly Christian and we say so, but every girl is welcome exactly as she is, and no one is pressed to believe anything.

Is my daughter the right age?

Our gatherings are built around girls aged 12 to 19. If you have a younger daughter who would come along with an older sister, bring her; just stay with her while she is with us.

What will it cost?

Nothing. Our activities are free, and they always have been.

Can I stay or visit first?

Yes, and we would rather you did. Come and see for yourself, meet the mentors, and decide afterwards.
